Earpiece sounds distorted after screen replacement

I replaced the screen on a friends iphone 6. Now my friend is saying that it sounds distorted when someone is talking to him. It was fine before I changed the screen. Any ideas? The screen protector isn't covering up the speaker. Since it worked fine before its gotta be hardware and not software related.....I would think anyways.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did you check the speaker to make sure you didn't disconnect it while you replaced the display?

I did not, but everything seemed to be sitting in place and fitting right so I am not sure how it would disconnect. Problem is I don't have the phone to check it at the moment.

You need to get the phone, open it and check the earpiece out. It has 4 gold contacts and if 1 of those is not making contact with the 4 gold contacts on the front facing camera flex the earpiece will sound distorted

I got the phone and opened it back up. took the 3 screws back out and the shield off. Made sure everything was aligned correctly. Put the shield back on. Made sure the two little black tabs are sticking up in the holes of shield assuring that the 4 gold contacts are correctly placed. Still sounds scratchy.

Interesting. Well you can try 2 things. 1- a new front facing camera/proximity flex cable or 2 - Remove the earpiece mesh assembly that comes on the new screen and see if the earpiece speaker sounds any better. There might be something that's blocking the sound from coming though.
