Thomas Overstreet, not quite sure how you washed it, but at minimum you will need need replace the HDD and the battery anyway since it will corrode and fail. While you have your iPod dismantled, clean everything with a high grade isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Do not forget any connectors etc. After that you will need to replace the display and hope that this will fix your backlight. If it does not, then the backlight circuitry on your logic board has shorted out.
