iPod won't turn on or restore

My iPod was working fine a while ago, while I was out of town. I didn't bring my charger, so it died, but it was working fine. Then, when I got back and tried to charge it, it wouldn't charge and showed that I needed to plug it into my computer and connect to the iTunes store, which I did. iTunes said that I could either update it or restore it to its factory settings. First I tried to update it but it said that the iPod couldn't be updated so I tried to restore it. I left it alone for a while on the screen with the apple icon and loading bar but it didn't do anything and all iTunes said is waiting for iPod.

Answer this question I have this problem too
