Spilled tea, turned on the mbp and now the fan is loud

Hi Guys

So what happened is that I spilled a full cup of tea on my study from where it oozed all over my mbp keyboard. I instantly picked up my device and shut it down( took 5 secs at least ). Then I shock out the liquid that was still inside the mbp and placed it upside down with a keyboard over a towel. I let it be that way for half hr after which I tried to turn it up using the power button but there was absolutely no response. Then I placed it in the same setting but under 2 bulbs to give it a little heat for an hour and a half.

Now following the insanity that I have already committed I connected my mbp to the charger and it instantly started, however there were 2 complications:

1. It did not stay on without the charging cord

2. The fan was really loud and I could easily feel the rush of air from the opening on the right corner( under the screen )

When it was on it loaded to the profile section where after I typed my password, the loading bar appeared on the bottom which took forever to complete ( about a min and half .. also the mouse cursor went into the loading shape and even froze in that colourful circle shape while the computer was still loading). After that my desktop was normally displayed but the fan and the rush of air problem were still there. After that the power cord accidentally got off and the mbp shut down.

I am really worried now for turning it back on as I read we have to let it dry for days.. Can you please tell me what I should do now and if I need to open up the back cover? I might not be conveying my problem in the right manner but any good help to get me out of this safely would be priceless.

Sadly, I think you have some deeper issues now.

You'll need take the system apart to correctly clean the rest of the tea out. It does sound like you burnt some the logic by powering the system before the tea was cleaned out.

Sadly, the OS is telling you your battery is gone. So at this point you'll need to start there. Here's the IFIXIT guide to replace the upper case which also holds the battery: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Upper Case Replacement. Here is a nice little program which will help you see whats happening in the SMC charging services: coconutBattery. But it likely won't tell you much more here than what you all ready know. Post a screenshot for us to see.

Hi Dan

Thank you for your reply. Its been a couple of days since my mac was drying and I have now turned it on. It all seems to be working for now (atleast, not sure if this will bite me later) apartfrom the sticky keys. However I am still having the battery issue I reported above as in my mac is totally working off the wall charger and the battery icon is showing condition "Replace now".

Unfortunately I was unable to open the mac as I was unable to find the proper screw drivers for it, I plan to do so as soon as i get my hands on them (dont have EBay or anything where I live).

Can you help me here? Is there any tests or checking I can do without opening up the macbook? Does this seem related to the logic board or the battery?

You'll need at least a driver set. Here one IFIXIT store offers: 54 Bit Driver Kit. If yo can swing it go with this set: Pro Tech Toolkit as if offers most every other tool you'll likely need.
