The bottom half of my screen is discolored and flickering.

This morning, my bottom 2/3rds of my phone screen randomly started flickering, but it went away after 10-15 seconds. By afternoon, the entire half was discolored. Is this possibly a software problem?

andrienalinerush, very unlikely that this is a software issue. Looks more like either a bad LCD or a connection issue. If your Glass and LCD are separating than you definitely should consider a new display panel. It is also possible that both are coming out of the frame which may caused be a swelling battery. You do want to use these guides to open up your phone and check the LCD connections, cables and connectors carefully. Also, do not forget the battery.
