Epson WF-3520 firmware update failure

When putting the drivers into a new Win7 install, Epson's search-and-destroy printer identifier and installer decided on its own to update firmware; of course, it crashed. Printer is now stuck in partial-start state - when you power it up, Power LED flashes and beeps once or twice as normal, display starts to come up, then it quits.

I have the firmware updater utility that is SUPPOSED to work, and a couple of the Epson service programs, but they will not connect to the printer via USB.

What is the procedure to do a hardware reset on the WF-3520 (panel keys held down, timing...) to get the bootloader in the microcontroller to reset and go to the "Recovery Mode" function where you can install firmware?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Try to update the firmware for your printer by following steps: (This process is only applied in window version only)

  1. Make sure your Epson product and computer are connected to the same wireless network
  2. Click Start Button or Start > All Programs or Programs > Epson Software > Epson Software Updater. If you don't see Epson Software Updater in the Epson Software folder, go to the Epson Software Updater page to download and install the utility.
  3. When you see the screen, select the check box next to each available update and click Install.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your product's firmware.

Its all done now.

For more info please refer to Epson WorkForce WF-3520 Manual.

Despite this is for a d different printer than my 7620 and it was a Windows 7 generation issue, it does not respond to the core problem which is the Epson Software Updater fails continually. Getting sent to a website that tells you to go through the process that does not work is of not value at all.

In addition Epson has refused to respond to direct requests for help with this. I would like to be able to download the needed files and update my fimware without using the Epson Software Updater. Oh yea, I reinstalled the upload too so I know it is fresh and running.
