Can a screen connector pin break and still work?

My iPhone 6 took a little tumble and the screen got a major spider web crack and the front camera stopped working but other than that it was all fine. I handed it in to the local repair shop which now says that the new screen doesn't work due to a broken screen connector pin, quoting: "The LCD connector has failed when the iPhone fell. The screen was working until it was disconnected from the connector.". To fix this the whole motherboard has to be replaced according to the technician ($380).

So my question is whether it's possible for a pin in the screen connector to break during a fall and still work until the phone is opened to be repaired? I am asking since to me the connector appears to be well protected.

All in all this would cost me $650, a fairly hefty sum.

What the guy meant was "we messed up your connector by accident when we were taking off your screen"

Let me guess---this was mall kiosk work?

The screen will not work with a damaged connector, but the right repair is to send the board out for connector replacement, not replace the whole board. I hope you are able to hold them responsible. There is no case where a drop actually damaged a connector---that is technician damage 100%

If you need to outsource the microsoldering job, feel free to contact me via my profile for board repair.
