Clothes not getting clean

My washer seems to be working normally, detergent gets dispensed, water goes in, the tub spins but when the load is done my clothes come out smelling like they have not been washed. They smell like dirty clothes that have been wet. I tried putting the detergent directly into the tub but that didn't change anything. I'm using Tide HE and have tried both powder and liquid to no avail.

Any ideas what may cause this and what I can do to fix the problem?

Can you tell if it is agitating?

Yes, it is agitating. Everything mechanical is functioning, tub spins fine.

And I just took off the bottom panel and cleaned the drain trap. It had some black gunk close to the cap but was otherwise clear.

I'd run a full long load of water by itself with 3 cups of bleach to see if you can sweeten it up.

Thanks, I have tried that and it's a little better but not odor free. I'll try again with Affresh which I bought yesterday afternoon.
