What cable is this, and what does it do?

My macbook kept overheating so i took it apart very carefully, and cleaned the fan and around the fan. However, as soon as i put it back together it wouldnt turn on or show any lights at all.

The only problem i could see on closer inspection was that there was a small cable that looked as if it had split, it was a tiny little cable. It connected to a small (see picture) connector on the motherboard, i was just wondering whether this was the problem and what exactly does it do?

Thanks, Ross

according to the logic board guide - it's the battery indicator cable (see step 15)
