White screen problem (but somehow still working)
Hi,
I've got a white screen problem on my 60 GB 5th generation iPod Video here. When I turn on the iPod, the screen is bright white. The iPod is not recognized in iTunes, Mac or Windows. If I reset the iPod (menu + select for 5 seconds), the screen is switched off - no Apple logo or something and after a while, it's bright white again.
I'm also able to put it in disc mode (menu + select for 5 seconds, as soon as the screen is switched off, change to play/pause + select). The screen is not as bright as before and the iPod is recognized in iTunes and as removable drive now. Within iTunes I can for example sync some contents on it. But if I try to restore the iPod everthing is ok until restart - the iPod changes to bright white again and is not getting recognized in iTunes again.
I can activate diagnostic mode (menu + select for 5 seconds, as soon as the screen is switched off, change to rewind + select) - change in screen brightness and the iPod beeps.
I even installed (and removed) Rockbox - no errors.
Somehow I think that I have two problems:
The screen is somehow defect since it does not show anything. Wouldn't be any problem since I want to use the iPod in the car and it will be remote controlled. So I basically don't care about this.
On the other hand, I think it is not working properly because it was not successfully restored. I'm afraid that there are some kind of instructions on the screen (that I can't read) and that the restore-procedure is just not finshed. Is there anything that one has to do after iTunes tells me that the iPod is going to be restarted?
Any other hints on this?
Thanks in advance,
Ralph
Is this a good question?
