Replace Graphics card for iMac Intel 27

I was told by a Tech at Apple Service Center that is possible to replace the Graphics card for iMac 24 and 27. But the price for the Graphics card they quote was quite expensive, any where else to buy Apple parts for iMac 27?

I'm looking for :

ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Officially, Apple provides some models with upgraded video options at the time of purchase, but the video is not intended to be upgraded by a third-party. However, based on disassembly photos, teardowns, and guides it appears that some models have the video mounted on its own card and it is theoretically upgradable in these systems.

I doubt the video cards in the 24" and 27" models are compatible with each other, but I've seen the two video cards that come with the quad core 27" and they're physically identical. since they both use the MXM bus, there's no reason they shouldn't work. Not worth voiding the warranty though!

I'm looking forward to some day putting that GDDR5 card (or whatever's newest at the time and will work) in my 2.8GHz i7!

The ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 is actually fairly cheap. It's a $100 and if you can find one used, you'll probably pay even less. The 5770 is a little more expensive but quite a bit more powerful because it's a lot faster!

However, I am not sure that you can upgrade to a better card. I think you can from a technical standpoint, but remember, the warranty is no good if you put anything other than a replacement of the original part into your iMac.

Good luck! :)

Hi Crunch, as you said ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 is actually fairly cheap, $100 for a used one. May i know where can i find it? Ebay? Besides ebay, anywhere else? I know a brand new 5750 will cost alot more. As for 5770, can it be fixed on iMac 27 (late Dec model)?

Thanks!
