Click Wheel Ribbon Cable Lock?

When I replaced by Logic Board in my iPod Classic 7th Gen, the plastic tab holding the orange click wheel ribbon in place broke off. The ribbon cable is seated in the connector and appears to be holding since the cable also sticks to the logic board. However, the click wheel is not working upon complete reassembly.

Does the plastic holding tab need to be locked in place to make the connection work?

Thanks..

The ribbon may sticks on the board, but the holding tab needs to be closed to make propper contact.

The tab is pressing the cable on the contacts in the connector.

So does that means I need a new logic board?

No because you said you changed it

i guess the the tab broke off on the new logicboard. Maybe you can find a shop who will change the connector. Or you could try to stick a thin layer of tape on the end of the ribboncable(not on the side with the contacts) and try to fit it in. But im not 100% if this will work.

Otherwise you have to buy a new logicboard. Im sorry.

Hi Hoss,

I had snapped off the little plastic tab that holds in the keyboard ribbon cable on a laptop, and found an easy way to fix it.

The same problem can occur on may different devices, such as CD players, laptop keyboard connectors, camera ribbon cable connectors, etc.

If you break off this little tab, the ribbon cable is not held in at all, and just falls out of the connector.

On the off chance that you have the same type of problem, check out my YouTube video I had posted last year. Not sure what is wrong with your connector. If it is the same problem, you can easily fix it in a few minutes.

The link in the original post seems to have been cut off when it was posted.

After posting this, I can see that it is STILL cut off,

So I'll past the address portion after youtube.com so that it is clear
