I've tried restoring it and changing the brightness settings but nothing seems to work. Everything else is fine, its just the backlight thats stuffing up! how do I fix it?

most likely the ccfl bulb (aka the backlight) dies and you have to replace the lcd!

how old is the nano?

if it's covered by the 1yr warranty, i woulkd go to apple and let them replace the nano.

if it's older, get a new lcd from ebay and replace the lcd on your own.

the bad part is, ifixit has no step-by-step guides for the nano 5g.

but since the 5g is similar to the 4g you can use the 4th generation display guide and look at the 5g teardownto see the differences between those models
