Can I replace my RS232 port?

My modem cable (RS232) cable was plugged into my computer via the modem and it got hit by lightning and now doesn't work.

Can that port be replace easily?

Thanks for your help.

Update (09/03/2015)

It's not the USB port - it's the RS232 port where you plug in the RS232 cable that looks like a phone jack. That's the port that is blown.

Both of my USB ports are fine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Are you talking about the external Apple modem that plugs into the USB port? This is a replaceable unit. Just order a new unit. If the computers USB port is damaged it might be just a fuse link which could be replaced. See if the either USB port is working with a known good USB device. As an example a USB thumb drive. If both fail you may have damaged the logic board

OK, you have a problem with the Ethernet port. The cable that connects to it also connects to a Hub

Can you tell us what is the make & model of hub you have and if it is also your Cable modem.

Also are you able to access a WiFi hotspot?

Macbook pros do not have RS232 ports. Maybe you mean RJ45 (ethernet)?

Yes, (I am embarrassed) it is the RJ45 port. Can this be replaced?

Before you go there lets see if we can make sure the Ethernet port is bad.

Unless you see physical damage on the connector then try resetting SMC, try a new ethernet cable and report back!

To reset the SMC:

Shut down the computer.

Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your computer.

On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.

Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

On MagSafe power adapters, the LED might change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
