During start up the Mac freezes and the screen gets a black and blue square pattern on it. It freezes and stops booting up. Anyone know where I should start or just have it sent in for repair? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a video processor issue. Try starting up holding down the Shift key. Hook it up to an external monitor and see what you get.
