Why is my battery not working

I put a new battery in. It took a charge. It was working and two days later a dead battery shows in the middle of the screen and a picture of a charging cord with a lightening bolt shows at the bottom. What's wrong?

There is a chip on the board called the U2 that is responsible for charging and USB functions. If it is not working or faulty then you will have issues like you describe.

If you let the battery get to low because of the faulty chip it is unable to recharge it again. Using non-Apple chargers is meant to be the cause of it failing.
