firewire port not found

looking into the about this mac menu, I see that my mac does not find its own firewire port. "no firewire ports were found"

I would like to make this port operate . Any ideas?

I have tried various keyboard solutions and tricky restarts. No Help.

Can you help me test the port..with test tools..or perhaps replace the port????

I have read that desk tops carry a small battery that may need replacing does my laptop also have a small battery to preserve settings? Can I replace it?

The sealed MacBook Pro models don't have a PRAM battery as the main battery is used in conjunction with a capacitor on the logic board.

See if you can do a PRAM reset. Follow this Apple T/N: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac.

If that fails to improve things I fear you need a new logic board as the FireWire ports logic maybe damaged.
