Why wont it play the c.d.
My Sony cdx 400 c.d. changer does everything but load and play the selected c.d.

I have a Sony 300 cd changer, I had issues in my old house with it, when it was cold, it would keep failing to play a cd. I would open the door of the changer for a few minutes to let some air circulate whilst it is powered on so the components warm up. Fixed it every time for me.
Could be dirt on the lens, if your changer is like mine, it is really simple to open, you can lift the top off and use a cotton bud with an appropriate cleaner to wipe off any gunk that has gathered over time. It is a good idea to clean them out every now and again, a bit of preventative maintenance.
It could also be the laser, if it has been in use for a long time. Good news is it is a cd laser so they are dirt cheap, I picked up 2 for my own one just incase when I need them they are gone. You could also tweak the pots on the laser and use a multi meter to test as you go. There are tutorials all over for doing this.
