Black screen, no sound, stand by light flashing and LCD still works?

Hello all !!!

So I posted last year about my Samsung UN65eh6000fxza led LCD Television and got side tracked with work. Since I'm hardly home to enjoy it and my wife said she didn't notice the problem anymore I let it slip. But it's gotten worse ( kinda what happens when you pretend nothing's wrong and ignore the problem till it can't be ignored anymore). So let's get started. A few months after purchasing this tv at Walmart for a great steal since it was a display. The top part of the screen became dim. TV was sold as is so no warranty. Samsung said to try updating firmware but I never could get the %#*@ thin to read the thumb drive, so we have old firmware still. A year went by and one day my wife says the tv wouldn't cut on. So I started the process. This tv has the power button built into the IR sensor. Turn the tv on and it flashes 5 times. The screen is black, no sound that I could tell and the LCD panel is still working. When I shine a light into the front I can see the white and black static from the tv input. I took the back off to inspect the boards. The main board BN96-28963A

looked ok except the back had some sort of gunk on it. Ribbon cables seem to be fine. The power supply led board BN44-00670A

of the board. None of the components seem damaged. No bulging or leaking. The T-Con board BN96-28894A

looks to be undamaged. But I'm just somebody who likes taking things apart and this is my first T-Con so I would trust that. I need a better multimeter before I can verify the voltages are right. I also have not tested the leds yet as I was hopping maybe someone could tell me if the problem could just be in one of the 3 boards. Thanks

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Would that be the T-CON board?

by

no, I believe your TV has the backlight circuitry on the power board

Ok, I took off the back of the TV and saw no visible signs that the boards were bad . I do not have a multimeter but I am getting one tonight. I also took some pictures but can't get them to load will try again after work

Mine is the bottom half

Timothy, definitely sounds like either your backlight circuitry or the backlight itself. Most likely we are looking at LED backlighting. Puts you kind of between a rock and a hard place. Take the back off the set and post some high res images of your boards with your question. you better get a good multimeter and lets see what we can find out.

Thank you for responding. I didn't have a warranty. The tv was without its accessories and a warranty. So I guess opening it up is my option. Would it be the backlight not getting enough power ?

by

Could be, could also be a driver issue or the LCD string itself. Open it up and lets take a peek

Hello, Oldturkey03. Sorry I never responded. Thank you for your willingness to help me with my repair last year. I final got around to opening it up and also loaded pictures if your still in the mood to take a look. Thanks again

Timothy, absolutely. Just post those images with your question so we can take a look at it. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that.
