replaced battery, now different symptoms

I have a 2g that would only turn on plugged into the PC or the wall. When plugged into the wall it wanted iTunes, when plugged into the PC it wanted to be restored but failed with a 16XX error. I replaced the battery and now the PC does not recognize it at all and does not turn on, plugged into the wall it still wants to be connected to iTunes. I'm pretty sure the new battery was installed properly. Anybody recognize these symptoms? Thanks for any help

But the iPhone is recognized by the PC with no battery installed...

I don't know the history of this iPhone but I have 2 other 2gs that are recognized by the same PC, which would eliminate most of the solutions to the 16xx errors.

I appreciate the help!

try the dock connector? if you've changed the battery and checked that the soldering is good, then look at cable connections to the dock connector. the phone won't power on if there's no power getting to the phone or to the battery via the charger. similarly the computer won't recognise the phone as there's no power coming from the phone.

this may be why you could only power up via the charger/ac

have you dropped the phone or had water damage which could effect the dock connector?

as to the error code try this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
