replaced screen, frame bezel, screen doesn't respond to touch yet

Hi, my daughter dropped her ipod crossing street, it was ran over. The screen still worked but was cracked alot.

I order new screen, to find out also need bezel frame, got it, put back together. Realized home button flex cable missing now, it broke in original, didn't realize that. I ordered new one, it is coming.

The screen comes on right now, but it doesn't respond when you drag your finger over screen. Did I do something wrong so far? The little digitzer ribbon, was it suppose to connceted inside, I tried my best to get it into place and push down on it to connect it, but don't know if it worked or not. Will the home button flex cable missing not allow it to respond yet?

Do you know if the home button flex cable needs to be soldered in or just stuck in place with tape when it comes? Thanks to anyone who can offer advice!! Amy
