A hard drive is basically the old technology used where the disc actually spins and there is a needle that reads the information. This information needs to be read every time you need it so basically you only have one reader going around. You can see this displayed in your computer because it is stored in your RAM memory however new things have to be opened from the hard drive every time.

Now a Hybrid drive is basically a mix between a regular hard drive and somewhat an SSD. It basically has some flash storage where recent information is stored and the most used information is usually kept there because you keep "refreshing" it. You will see a better performance from a hybrid but obviously not as great as an SSD
