Fresh boot wont read usb

Trying a fresh boot on a brand new drive. I am using a usb snow Leopard and when i boot it up i get the circle with a cross through it, and when i hold down the option key it only shows the hard drive but not the usb boot drive.

There might be something wrong with the USB or the USB port, try a different USB port, and then try the USB boot on another mac, see what happens, or you might try to create the USB boot again, majority of the time i see this problem the USB is not partitioned correctly

Also if its snow leopard most of the time that came on a DVD, if you have that have you tried that, on boot hold option+c

USB works on other macbook pro's of the same type and i have tried both usb slots
