iPhone 4s recovery and tiny umbrella

Hey everyone!! I've been told by an iFixit tech that this forum is full of awesome people and that you may be able to help me!!

My iPhone 4s has gone into spontaneous recovery mode for no reason whatsoever and I have the famous "I didn't back up my photos" scenario and they are very precious to me (please don't berate me - I've already yelled at myself!)

My Windows PC is NOT detecting my phone but iTunes says its detecting my phone?! I downloaded a data retrieval programme (EaseUs) and it cannot see my phone. The flash memory is not one that can be removed and placed into a working phone.

I have heard of a piece of software called tiny umbrella that can apparently kick your phone out of recovery mode thus protecting your data. Does anyone have any experience with this software? Does it work? Are there any other solutions I could try?
