T-Mobile version and 2g Edge support missing?

I have the TMO version of the Note 10.1 2014 edition but the tablet doesn't seem to be compatible with 2g networks. Can anyone confirm that this is the case and if so, is it a specific hardware limitation in this specific version of the tablet?
