As mentioned already yes always a good idea. Me personally, the first thing i unplug is the battery on any device. That way after powered down you get all the electric flow out of the board and save other components before pulling cables with power still connected to the board from the battery.

Yes!!! You might cause damage to the LCD panel and/or yourself otherwise. You should always power off any electronic device before opening it up!

Yes. You should ALWAYS turn off/unplug electrical devices before you work on them. Liquid crystal displays can be ruined if they are disconnected from an iPad while it's turned on.
