Refit connector to oil tube between oil filter housing and oil gauge.

Hose to Oil Gauge I recently replaced the speedo cable on my 280E. Unfortunately I snagged it on the plastic oil tube which goes to the oil gauge on the instrument panel. More unfortunately the hose snapped off at the engine housing end. I disconnected the connector and retrieved the plastic end of the of the broken tube which sits inside this connector. There is an internal connector which is pressed inside the tubing which was very difficult to remove but I managed to do it. I have tried to reconnect it to the remaining oil sender tubing without success. Can anyone please advise me how to do this or do I have to get a new oil sender hose - if they are still available?
