Alright i will describe my process with a Mac and installing a new HDD

First, make a boot media of the OS we are going to be installing, Link:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Second, MAKE A TIME MACHINE BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL HDD while it is still in your PC, this is extremely important so you don't loose anything, you will need an external backup drive for this

Third, once the TMBackup is done install new HDD

Fourth, insert your boot media you made on step one, power on the PC, hold option down, you should see your boot media present in the list, tell it to boot from that, follow the normal steps of installing and after it is done installing the OSX, you can use migration assistant to bring over your old profile and data from the old HDD

Items You Will Need For This Process:

Flash Drive - for OSX install

External Backup Drive - For the TMBackup

An External HDD reader for your old HDD- So you can use Migration Assistant

Do you ever plan on formatting this hard drive or just leave it as it is?
