I broke the original screen, and replaced with one purchased on amazon. Now the smart covers lock and unlock feature stopped working. I swapped back the cracked old original one and it starts working again.
Can anyone help me purchase one that works like original screen. Or tell me what might be causing the issue.

that functionality is part of the home button flex cable. If you got a cheap screen which includes the home button, the circuitry for that feature was left off.
Either you can desolder the home button flex that came with the new screen, and then transfer the original home button flex. Or if you purchase a new screen from a reputable supplier, it should be fully functional.

which of these would you think is a better option. (I'm just taking your suggestion, wont have a bad outlook if it pans out otherwise. :)

I have used the ifixit screens myself, and they are good quality and as close to the original as possible. The others could be hit or miss.
