Can I carry the laptop's display through airplane from US to India?

I'm planning to buy the MacBook Pro 15" Retina's display from iFixit, ordered to an US address and carry it to India through my return flight.

Is the display's package good enough to be put with the cargo baggage?

And are there any declarations to be made at the airport?

Have you ever watched baggage handlers? Apparently not. Those guys could tear up a crow bar. Picture your display in a very good box at the bottom of a pile that has just had 4 heavy bags tossed onto it. Put it in your carry on.

And no need to declare anything in terms of customs duties out of the U.S.

And since you are allowed to carry a laptop in your carry-on, then having just the screen is surely allowed.

They may ask you for a hand inspection before you board so make sure the packaging can be opened and resealed. More likely you'll have an issue arriving in India if they think you are importing parts without a license.
