SB,

What iOS version are you at? The iPod Touch 4th Gen/FaceTime as well as the iPod Touch 4th Gen 2011 and 2012 versions have a max update of iOS 6.1.6*.

Otherwise,

Here is an Instructables on a Jailbreak: Jailbreak iPod Touch 4th Gen. I do however not recommend jailbreaking your iPod Touch. Proceed at your own risk.

Best of Luck!

Why would you not recommend JB for iPod touch?

If not done correctly, you can brick your hardware. If done correctly, using a jailbroken iOS device opens you up to security vulnerabilities. Yes iOS has its security issues and are patched up accordingly. Jailbroken devices have even more security vulnerabilities and you're not guaranteed a patch or fix for it. Here's more reading material on it: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-compellin...

What do you mean "if not done correctly you can brick your device". You can always DFU restore back to original settings, no?
