Can I use the cord from my slim pS3 for the PS4?

My PS4 is from the States and I am living in Ireland. Can I use the cord from my slim pS3 (from Ireland) for the PS4? The cord fits and turns the PS4 on but I didn't want to take any more chances so powered down. Converters (which worked for am American-bought Wii U here in Ireland) are heating up and I smell smoke and the PS4 shuts off. Any help and advice would really be appreciated.

Peter Admirand, yes you can. You also do not need a converter. The PS4 has a universal power supply which is rated at an AC Input of 100-240 volts and 50/60Hz. The heating up and smoking of the converter is most likely an issue with the converter since it is most likely not equipped to handle the PS4. Do not use it since you do not need it.
