i agree with chris.
i love hackintoshing - i have 3 of them and they all run great - all 3 with snow kitty on it.
running pretty badly doesn't say much about a computer. use a 400mhz pc and then use a 400mhz mac. many things are depending on small differences. depending on the hardware specs of your vaio you can use tiger, leopard or even snow leopard.
my vaio p11z was extremely problematic, it took a few days before it was purring. after that, i did the eee 1005ha without any guide, i collected the kext's i needed and installed it (no, i didn't use the netbook maker). my 3rd hackintosh is the beast (and not even close to a beauty) - it's an aopen "digital engine" mini itx board - i looked at the spec's, cloned a macbook installation, installed chameleon on the new drive and connected it to the board. pressed the power button and the thing was running. no hacking, no extension stuff - nothing.
the hardware was in this case perfect ;-)
