Power/Lock button is jammed and not very responsive

I have and iPhone 3GS and the power/lock button is not working as it once did. It is slightly jammed and needs more force than it originally did.

I would like to know what exactly is causing the button to stop clicking.. Is it that the aluminum contacts inside have been flattened?

I haven't dropped my phone but I am using the Speck Candyshell case and I suspect that due to its design it has put too much pressure on the button over time.

Answer this question I have this problem too

the actual switch is made of 2 thin tin foils - they bend over time - so most likely the constant pressure bend the foil.

it might be possible to bend it back - i did this many times on cell phones - but the easiest way would be to replace the whole headphone jack assembly (but that's a little bit pricey)
