Why wont my I pod keep a charge
my i pod reads fully charged and 5 minutes later shuts down and says low battery

The battery is dead. You need to replace it.
iPod Classic Battery Replacement
For these, there are thin and thick batteries. The 60/80GB Classic use the thin battery. The 120/160GB Classic use thick batteries. You may even be able to put the thick battery in the thin models. If this works, you'll get a stronger battery.
