The apple logo is scrambled

Hi,

When I start my machine, the apple logo is all scrambled, with some of its pixels at different location on the screen and then the startup screen is all messed up and after that a grey screen comes and laptop becomes inactive.

Tried restarting many times but had similar results each time.

This is covered by the Nvidia recall program.

"In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within three years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."

Your model has a different processor not covered by this program but if it's doing the same the processor is bad. ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics processor -- using PCI Express -- with 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory. A NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS graphics processor with 512 MB of GDDR3 video memory also was available as a build-to-order upgrade for US$150.
