Very possible if you look at all the hard drive cable questions for this Macbook Pro there is a SSD involved. I'm gonna order a hard drive bay in place of the dvd drive and see what happens.

If you bought the cable from iFixit, it has a lifetime warranty. Did it have paper backing on the sticky parts of the cable when you got it. Where did it come from? There is no matching needed. Was the SSD drive in the machine when the old cable failed? What caused you to replace the cable in the first place?

I purchased a 2011 MBP hard drive cable from iFixit last week and it came in a mangled and badly folded condition with a severe permanent crease in the signal lines and no paper backing on the sticky parts. An email with pictures and an international telephone call to iFixit support said this sometimes happens (!) but there was no offer to replace what is clearly a defectively packed part. There was mention that if it works but fails in the future they will replace under the lifetime warranty policy, so I'm faced with installing a substandard part and waiting for a second failure.

I am VERY disappointed with the service from this company and WOULD NOT purchase from them again.

Return it if it was stated as new. Cables without the paper backing are used. A bad cable can harm your hard drive.
