it's not even loading iTunes up

Hi I am having issues with my ipod for a few days now. Yesterday I lost speaker sound. It was fine through headphones but not speaker. I have today turned it off and left it for a while as it was all abit sluggish. When I turned it back on it, I tried my music and it was working through the speaker but within seconds the ipod had turned itself off (it has done this a few times before but I had manage to reset it with the power and menu button). This time it is not working. I tried plugging the devise on my PC and go through iTunes, but it's not even loading iTunes up.

Has my devise given up for good or is there anything else I can try?

Thanks

So when you open iTunes it doesn't recognize it at all? If you hold the home button down before connecting it to your PC and keep the home button down as you connect it, then open iTunes, does it recognize it? If possible try this on another PC/Mac as well. You should get a message that iTunes has detected a device.

If you don't get that message you have a major hardware failure. There's a possibility it's the logic board, though if there was no water damage that would be very, very unusual. Out of dozens of iPod Touch 5Gs I've done I've only had one with a failed logic board that wasn't obviously water damaged. The most common causes of the logic board not responding are failed battery and failed charging port/flex. The LCD, which can and does often fail, usually won't stop the logic board being able to communicate with iTunes.
