Broken MOBO connector that attaches hey board and mouse pad Ribbon

I have two Dell Inspiron 5050 Laptops. I swapped the old HHD with SHHD on both units, however, one unit, the connector shattered when I put my finger under it to lift the bar and release the ribbon.

Without an exploded view, I can not see how to design a work around. With the locking bar missing, the ribbon just sits in the connector, it does not snap or push on . The ribbon also has a thick plastic coating on top and a lighter coat of plastic on the bottom. Thus I am not sure if the ribbon slides on to the MOBo pins of if the locking bar that is now missing would pinch the ribbon and penetrated the plastic coating . This is why I need an exploded view.

1) First choice is to design a work around. I did tape the ribbon in place, but the only way it would work is if I used my finger to apply pressure and reboot.

2) Is to purchase a new connector and install on MOBO and move on.

3) Send out for repair if cost effective.

Thank you,

Hi Tom,

I had already replied to one of your previous questions, so sorry for a duplicate answer.

I had snapped off the little plastic tab latch that holds in the keyboard ribbon cable on a laptop, and found an easy way to fix it.

The same problem can occur on may different devices, such as CD players, laptop keyboard connectors, camera ribbon cable connectors, etc.

If you break off this little tab, the ribbon cable is not held in at all, and just falls out of the connector.

On the off chance that you have the same type of problem, check out my YouTube video I had posted last year. Not sure what is wrong with your connector. If it is the same problem, you can easily fix it in a few minutes.

I checked it a few minutes ago, it is there.

The link in the original post seems to have been cut off when it was posted.

I'll past the address portion after so that it is clear
