The flashing folder is usually indicative of corruption of the hard drive or the operating system. If you don't back up your system, you may be out of luck but reinstalling the operating system should fix the problem. You may be able to install the OS on a different hard drive and then copy your data if your original hard drive is not corrupted.

Do you have the disc that come with the macbook? Also hold the option key at next boot and try booting into your hard drive.

Please take the time and effort to explain your issues more completely. Why do you think you have a RAM problem? Please give the last four figures of your serial number, that will tell us what you have.
