When you press the power button, can you feel it click down? or does it just feel stiff with no click?

Sounds like the power flex has gone bad, but try Sunnys directions about the assistive touch.

Settings, general, accessibility, AssistiveTouch

I tried but it did provide a power button in assistive touch...

by

Its under DEVICE and then LOCK SCREEN on the assistive touch menu

by

Pressing LOCK SCREEN will put it to sleep, holding it will give you the option to power off the phone.

Your power flex is most likely water damaged so when you hold it down, it is not making a solid connecting. the best way to test this out is to turn on assistive touch, and hold on to the capacitive power button.

if it is able to turn off, then is it the button issue. if it is not then, try to restore the phone in DFU mode.

hope that helps, if it does please choose my answer.

good luck!

Your power button sounds like it's going bad. Very common issue with the iPhone 5.

Apple actually launched a recall on the issue so if you can, bring it in to apple
