Replacement/Upgrade disk drive for this model?
Hello, I am looking to upgrade an old G3 with memory, which I see listed, and a new disk drive, which I do not see listed...is there a compatible drive available? Thanks
Is this a good question?

Hi! By "disk drive", I assume you mean an optical drive, i.e. CD-ROM drive? Here's a Combo drive available at iFixit, which burns CDs, and plays DVDs:

This is a DVD-ROM drive, which does not burn CDs, but plays DVDs, if you'd like to save a little money:

If you were referring to hard drives, and not optical media, here is a standard ATA hard drive which should work in your machine:

Actually, I don't see a reference to this drive being able to work on your computer, but assuming it is a standard ATA drive and not a SATA drive, it should work. Does anyone know of a reason this drive would not work on an iBook G3? I'm thinking maybe the full capacity of the drive may not be visible, but I'd think it should basically function fine....
Thanks

One addition to rdklincorporated's good answer is that G3 iBooks will only recognize 128 GB or whatever size hard drive you install. If you go with the 160 GB, I would say just be happy that you can have 128 GB of storage on an iBook G3! If you go larger than that, be sure to partition the hard drive into multiple partitions (128 GB or less, for each partition) to take full advantage of your storage.
Weird, huh?

Hi Ben! Thanks for the verification. I don't often put big drives on G3s, so I wasn't absolutely sure, but I had a feeling it was just a matter of less of the drive being available. Thanks!
