15" Apple MacBook Pro

I would like to install a bigger drive and possibly more internal memory in my MacBook Pro, which I bought in early 2008. My drive is original and I am also concerned it will not last much longer. How can I be sure that I am identifying the correct type of hard drive and internal memory to replace since there are numerous 15 inch models in existence?

What do I ask for in hard drive part (type) and memory (type)?

Thank you

Here's a list of drives that iFixit carries that will work for you if you do not have the Unibody model: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/MacBook-...

We can tell you more and give you installation instruction if you can tell us exactly which Book you have.

For some reason, people think that Apple computers use different parts than PCs do, but they don't (for the most part). Any sata 2.5 hard drive will work in that macbook.

Here's NewEggs laptop hard drive page, sorted by best ranked (I suggest going with a Western Digital)

To make sure you pick out the right RAM, click on the Apple in the upper right corner and select about my mac. It will say 1GB (or however much you have) DDR2 667 or DDR2 533. My assumption, based on when you bought the machine, is that your computer has DDR2 667 but DOUBLE CHECK. Below is the NewEgg page for laptop DDR2 RAM. Adjust the speed and the size accordingly on the left based on what you need.

It might be best to wait to see which machine he has before making RAM recommendations.
