1 Trackpad - fallen in, works sporadically
Hi,
My trackpad sits slightly lower than it should in the bottom corners. I've encountered all manner of issues with it over the past year, seemingly at random - e.g. cursor stops moving vertically, hard click stops working, unresponsive. Apple fixed a very similar issue 2 years into my warranty (3 years ago now) and replaced the trackpad, battery and entire casing. I think I remember them saying it was related to a swollen battery.
I'm going to try and fix it myself so would appreciate some help! In particular:
- Do I need to replace both the trackpad and battery?
- When replacing the trackpad, is there anything else I need to do to make sure it sits correctly?

@James - You state in your question the surface of the trackpad is lower than it once was. Is the trackpad loose? And does the the plate look worn.

Thanks all for your responses. I'm pretty certain it's not a software issue - When I went to an Apple Store they told me the trackpad would need to be replaced. I also had an almost identical problem in year 2-3, which was fixed under AppleCare with a new trackpad, casing and battery.
Dan - I'm at work so don't actually have the laptop to hand, but don't recall it being especially worn. The top of plate seems to be fixed in fine, but it gradually inclines downwards towards the user. It's particularly acute in the bottom right corner where it falls several mm when hard-clicking - much looser than what you'd get on a factory trackpad. Although the hard click (almost) always registers, actions like dragging and dropping are extremely temperamental - a lot of the time it won't let me do it, and often when I do get it to work I'll get halfway across the screen ( or less) before it cuts out.
