Thats correct! The iSight camera won't record via iMovie.

You could use your video camera, iPhone, or iPad and then transfer the data file over to edit within iMovie.

do you know why it recognizes iSight on my iMac - and not on my Macbook Pro?

Maybe it's a version issue as the iSight camera isn't working on my iMac under iMovie. Check your versions.
