Is it the hard drive?

Ok my Ps 4 starts when I push the power button, or it should I say it tries to, but then it shuts off by itself. Do I need to replace the hard drive?

NO! Don't replace the hard drive. This problem has nothing to do with the hard drive.

You either have a bad power supply (not very likely, but possible) or your PS4 has faulty connections between the APU or simply a bad APU.

These are the most common causes of the problem you are having. It has nothing to do with the hard drive, thermal paste, optical drive or anything else other than what I mentioned about.

I hope this helps.

ok then what is a APU and how do I fix it?

The APU is the "Accelerated Processing Unit". It's basically just the CPU+GPU all in one chip. Unfortunately there is no easy way to fix it yourself. There's also no good way to know whether the APU is bad or whether it can be fixed without having it repaired. I wish it was easier than that, but it's just not. Sorry.
