MacBook can't charge battery but It powers on

Hi,

Probably my a1184 power adapter has broken my macbook unibody a1278, since when I connect it to the magsafe, no led light on the connector (neither green or ambra) but It powers on (if the battery has charge) and, with the power adapter connected, It works from the wall energy but It doesn't charge the battery (in fact macbook show "not charging" message).

A technician (Apple Premium Reseller) told me that I've to replace my Logic Board (480 € of charge) but Can It be instead the DC IN card (that costs lower... sorry but I don't trust him)?

Thanks a lot

First try removing the battery and see if it starts. It should. We need to try to isolate the problem and if it boots is probably not a logic board problem. We might need to try several things. I have not seen a AC adapter that I didn't get some kind of light with. Download Coconut battery to test the battery out. http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

Try starting with just the battery. This seems to be a power issue to me. So we check the AC, mag port, battery and battery connector. Let us know the results of the above and we'll proceed. Thanks. Interesting problem.

After re-reading a couple of times I see it's the magsafe board. All the tests point to it. Here's how to replace it: MacBook Unibody Model A1278 DC-In Board Replacement
