My MacBook turns on, but the screen is still black. Help!

I dropped my MacBook off a chair onto the floor, the drop was about 2 feet, and my screen hasn't worked since. My MacBook boots up and works just fine (I've been using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable to use it on my TV), and the Apple logo still lights up. The screen is illuminated, but there is nothing displaying. Additionally, every time I turn it off there's a brief white flash before it shuts down.

What's going on? Is this something I can repair on my own? I don't have warranty or AppleCare.
