Drive does not work?

I down loaded a program, which was taking a long time so I left my computer and went to the store. When I came home my computer had shutdown. When I restarted it, it said that the computer had over heated. Everything worked fine except the drive no longer worked. I installed a new drive and that did not help. What do you thing is the problem and can it be fixed? Thanks, Jan

Update

Thanks for your responses. This is a Vostro 1500. I get a error 10, I have gone through the register and it still does not work.

What is a bga chip? I use to build floppy disk drives years ago and have seen chips flowed before. What is strange is that everything else seems to be working fine.

Hi, Which model Dell do you have? Also does the unit try to boot and what messages does it show? Ralph

Hello Jan , The overheating worries me as there could be motherboard damage. However I am including a link to a generic article on error 10 that may help you. If it does not please come back and we will look further. Ralph

if you go into the bios and cannot detect the hdd. possibly one of the bga chips on your computer needs to be reflowed.
