Yes. The locked/unlocked status is part of the motherboard. If you buy an unlocked motherboard to replace your old one, your phone will be unlocked.

Hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn't.

How does the carrier unlock the phone if the old IMEI does not match the new IMEI?

You would have to go through the process set up by the carrier to unlock the phone. For AT&T there is a form, for verizon you just call them.

It's like getting a new phone.

A customer set up a repair with a “Samsung Galaxy S8+“ that required replacing a front screen assy, rear glass panel, and the batt. The customer has completely fell off the radar and abandoned the device, in which we have a 90 Day Forfeit Policy. It’s now pushing 7 months. The device has actually had a delinquent account due to an unpaid balance since 2017! The Real Problem is Sprint, of all service carriers, has locked it and is refusing to help out unless I give them the former customer’s personal pin! Impossible!!! Now can I replace the circuit board or any other component and solve the issue so the device can be access through straight talk??
